Sources: Ivan Perisic has played final Tottenham match

Ivan Perisic will not play again for Tottenham due to how long it will take for him to fully recover from his ACL injury, sources have told Tottenham News.

A source close to Perisic, 34, has told Tottenham News that the Croatian winger faces an extremely long road to return to full fitness after suffering a serious knee injury in September.

Perisic joined Tottenham on a two-year deal in the summer of 2022 and enjoyed a relatively successful first season in North London on a personal level, registering 12 assists in all competitions, the most of any player at the club.

Following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, the 34-year-old was relegated to the role of a bit-part player but still proved useful coming off the bench and helping Spurs to see out victories during the early stages of the Australian’s reign.

However, his ACL injury has effectively ruled him out for the rest of the season and Tottenham News has been told by a personal source close to the former Inter Milan winger that he has a lengthy battle ahead of him to not only recover from his injury but to also regain match fitness.

Due to this and the fact Perisic will turn 35 in February, Tottenham will not be offering a contract extension to the 2018 World Cup finalist with so many doubts surrounding his long-term fitness.

Tottenham’s injury crisis has wreaked havoc on Ange Postecoglou’s squad in recent weeks.

Rodrigo Bentancur, Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon, Giovani Lo Celso, Brennan Johnson and Alfie Whiteman all have varying degrees of injuries as it stands.

In other Tottenham news, the club’s silence could be seen as exciting as they failed to respond after a billionaire NFL owner was spotted at Stanstead Airport.
