Eberechi Eze ‘to agree personal terms with Tottenham’ amid latest transfer news

Eberechi Eze is understood to be keen on a switch from Crystal Palace to Tottenham following a recent transfer update.

The attacking midfielder has been courted by Spurs for a long time, with the Lilywhites now looking to inject some quality into their side following their bleak Premier League campaign.

Eze’s winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City will likely have only cemented Tottenham’s belief that the playmaker would be an excellent purchase.

Oliver Glasner’s links to replace Ange Postecoglou could serve to aid Spurs’ task in bringing the 26-year-old to North London, although it appears Tottenham might not need the Austrian to convince Eze to join.

Tottenham ready to negotiate with Crystal Palace for Eze

Eze has taken the Premier League by storm since he joined Crystal Palace from Queens Park Rangers in August 2020.

The England international has been the poster boy of the South London club, increasingly mixing his flair on the ball with direct goalscoring contributions.

His unique abilities have attracted Tottenham, who, according to CaughtOffside (31 May), are preparing to negotiate with their London rivals for Eze’s signature. The Lilywhites are exploring various options, including triggering the midfielder’s £68million release clause or offering a player-plus-cash style deal.

And former Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Eze would be willing to agree personal terms with Tottenham.

“Eze has just won the FA Cup with Palace,” King said.

“I think the FA Cup is a bigger trophy than the UEFA Europa League. However, Tottenham are a bigger club than Palace and always will be.

“But it will cost them a lot of money to sign Eze because he is the man of the moment. I have always liked Eze; he is an outstanding player.

“I think Eze would accept a move to Tottenham. However, things need to change at the club. Yes, they are a big club, but is he going to play every week? A lot of things will need to be put into place if Tottenham are going to sign Eze.”

Eze’s profile fits Spurs’ philosophy

Tottenham’s ‘To Dare Is To Do’ motto is part of the reason Postecoglou was brought to Hotspur Way – to instil an attacking, exciting footballing philosophy.

The Australian has understandably veered away from that in the last few months, particularly in the Europa League campaign, but bringing Eze to Spurs would reignite the fans’ excitement.

The talented midfielder has the sort of arrogance and ingenuity that gets supporters off their feet, and would be a very welcome addition to a side lacking in creativity.
