Dorrington ‘to hold talks with Tottenham amid significant transfer interest’

Tottenham defender Alfie Dorrington will be considering his future after a successful loan spell with Aberdeen.

Dorrington enjoyed a memorable few months in Scotland.

The centre-back worked his way into becoming a starter for Aberdeen, and eventually played a key role in the Dons’ shock victory over Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.

As a result, it looks as though the 20-year-old could be a man in demand this summer.

Dorrington ‘could join Championship club on loan’

In recent weeks, Dorrington has insisted that Tottenham will be the ones to decide what is next for him.

The England youth international penned an emotional goodbye message to Aberdeen via Instagram (28 May), and there is no doubt that Dons fans will be eager to see him light up Pittodrie for another season.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Spurs could be tempted to loan the academy graduate out to a Championship club.

“Aberdeen have a play-off game to reach the Europa League,” Wenham said.

“If they reach the league phase, I wouldn’t be against Dorrington doing another season with Aberdeen. Those eight European games, at a minimum, would be an amazing experience.

“He started slowly as he was getting up to fitness and hadn’t played much football after some serious injuries. However, he grew into the role, and a lot of fans were raving about his performances toward the end of the season.

“I do wonder if Tottenham see a Championship loan as the better move, rather than another year in Scotland. However, that will be a decision for Dorrington and his family to make, and I’m sure he’ll hold discussions with Tottenham. He will have lots of offers.”

Dorrington could secure a loan move to West Brom

Ryan Mason has been announced as the new West Brom Head Coach.

As a result, that could encourage several Tottenham youngsters to make loan moves to The Hawthorns, an option would could appeal to Dorrington.

Continuing his growth in the Championship is always going to be an attractive option, but to do so under a manager with whom he is familiar may be the easiest decision he could make.
