Dominic Solanke ‘to be benched for Tottenham v Everton’ as replacement mooted

Dominic Solanke is expected to miss out for Tottenham against Everton on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou is in desperate need of a first Premier League win since mid-December with Daniel Levy expected to fire the Australian if Spurs don’t pick up three points at Goodison Park on 19 January.

Therefore, he will need to get his team selection spot on and has been handed a boost with Ben Davies in line to return to action against the Toffees [via Football London, 17 January].

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested that Postecoglou could decide to rest Solanke and start Richarlison up top.

“Richarlison did score twice at Goodison Park last season,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, that’s an option because Solanke looked very tired against Arsenal. He has been playing game after game after game. At some point, he is going to need to be rested.

“Richarlison is someone who always performs well when he is the main man. As a result, if there was ever a game to start him in, this is the one, and that would help Solanke, who looks out on his feet at the moment.

“As a result, we will see what happens, but Solanke could definitely be benched for Richarlison, who looked energetic when he came on against Arsenal.”

Dominic Solanke to miss out for Tottenham v Everton?

Richarlison has been linked with an exit from Tottenham, with Levy urged to accept a £40million loss.

However, while the Brazillian is still at the club, Postecoglou might as well use him, especially with Solanke in desperate need of a rest.

Richarlison has proven he can score in this fixture for Spurs and knows Goodison Park better than anyone in the Tottenham squad. Therefore, starting him ahead of Solanke could be wise.

However, this would only further fuel speculation about Will Lankshear potentially moving on.

In other Tottenham news, Levy “won’t hesitate to sack Postecoglou” with a replacement already mooted.
