Dominic Solanke tipped for ‘huge’ future after Tottenham transfer failure

Tottenham Hotspur did not initially need Randal Kolo Muani during the winter transfer window as they already had Dominic Solanke before his injury, according to Ian Darke.

The TV commentator, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, is adamant Solanke has what it takes when he returns to fitness to take the baton from Harry Kane for Spurs – and has backed him to do the same for England once Kane steps back from international duty.

The £65million frontman, 27, has scored 11 goals in 29 appearances this season since arriving from AFC Bournemouth, but the Lilywhites appear in the market for a new striker with Mathys Tel now odds-on to sign in N17 (Oddschecker, 31 January).

This is a result of Solanke’s recent injury, which will rule him out for a period of around six weeks.

Tottenham didn’t really need Kolo Muani, I see him more as a number nine and when he’s fit they’ve got Dominic Solanke, who has a lot going for him,” Darke reasoned.

“I see Solanke as England’s next main man up front after Harry Kane – he could have a huge future with the national team.

“After the Kane era is over, I think Solanke will be England’s go-to centre-forward.”

Dominic Solanke takes over from Harry Kane at Tottenham

Harry Kane’s record-shattering goalscoring exploits for Tottenham will not be beaten for a long, long time – possibly ever. The same goes for his scoring rate for England which shows absolutely no sign of slowing down.

Kane, 31, scored 280 goals in 435 Spurs games, and has 69 and counting for the Three Lions in 103 caps.

Solanke, four years his junior, stepped into huge shoes and a team performing miles off what Kane was largely used to, but once back to full fitness is looking to leap into a prolific run for Ange Postecoglou and add to his three England caps – a mission potentially made harder if Spurs do punt for another forward.
