Destiny Udogie told exactly what he must do as Thomas Frank given no choice at Tottenham
Thomas Frank has made several big calls while Tottenham coach and that’s not expected to change anytime soon.
There are several players who have had strong starts to the season under Frank. Richarlison netted a double for Spurs against Burnley and impressed against Manchester City. However, he has struggled to maintain that consistency throughout the season.
Mohammed Kudus stunned on his Tottenham Premier League debut and has become an integral part of Frank’s side.
But the Dane is yet to nail down the starting players on his team sheet, and it seems no one’s place is secure.

This article includes exclusive comments from Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham.
Destiny Udogie will need to impress Thomas Frank to start
Destiny Udogie returned for Tottenham against Villarreal in their UEFA Champions League win.
The fullback had been out with an injury, with Djed Spence taking his place in the starting lineup. While Udogie was one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League before his injury, Spence has been one of Tottenham’s best players this season.
As a result, Tottenham expert and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Udogie will need to fight for his spot and could have the chance against Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup.
“It’s interesting because I do see the comments and the commentary that’s being made that Udogie is an overlapping fallback may work better with Simons,” Wenham said.
“But Spence’s form at the moment is so good that he can’t be dropped. So I think for now, while he’s playing on a high, obviously, just recently coming into England’s national team as well, I find it difficult to take him out of the team at the moment.
“I don’t know if impressing against Doncaster Rovers will be enough to get him in the Premier League team, but when those opportunities do arrive, Udogie will have to really impress because Spence is doing so well.”

How can Destiny Udogie contribute to Tottenham?
Udogie and Spence are two world-class fullbacks on their day. But Udogie’s return could enhance the left-hand side.
As of right now, the Spence and Xavi Simons partnership is not working out. Given Udogie’s ability to hold width, there is an argument to be made that he and Simons would be the stronger pairing.
Some of Udogie’s strengths include:
- Ball progression: Udogie is excellent when progressing the ball, which could help Spurs in the attack
- Crosses: The fullback is known for consistently putting good crosses into the box
- Overlapping tendencies: Udogie is always looking to overlap with his winger, which could lead to him developing a good attacking partnership with Simons
As a result, Udogie’s attacking strengths could see him retain his place in Spurs’ starting lineup once more.
