Daniel Levy to ‘weigh up’ Tottenham summer push for Serhou Guirassy after new transfer update
Tottenham chief Daniel Levy will have to “weigh up” a summer transfer for Serhou Guirassy as they look to add to their forward line this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
The 28-year-old has been in excellent form for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 28 goals in as many matches to finish second in the Golden Boot race only behind former Lilywhites skipper Harry Kane.
Spurs are reportedly one of several clubs interested in securing the Guinea international’s signature this summer, with Guirassy’s reported £15million release clause putting him on Tottenham’s radar [Give Me Sport, 17 May].
Although Hutton admits that Spurs will likely consider acting upon their interest in the centre-forward, he believes other targets may be higher on their shopping list, including Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.
“I think it depends where he falls in their pecking order,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“If we’re looking at the likes of Solanke if they can’t get him out then they might move on to the next target. He’s done really well this season, he’s scored goals in the German league and a £15million release clause for a striker, you don’t normally see that.
“The question mark will be, can he do it in the Premier League? For a lot of the players that come into the league, yes they’re talented, and yes they can score goals, but the Premier League is just a different animal so it is whether they can cope with that.
“You have to weigh up the risks then. Yes, he’ll cost less but are we going to get the player that we actually need?
“Solanke will be expensive and that £15million might look like a cheaper option and you never know it could work out. It will be interesting to see what route they go down.”
Will Tottenham look to sign Serhou Guirassy in the summer transfer window?
As Hutton suggests, there have been plenty of players who have thrived on the continent but never quite been able to replicate that form in the Premier League, particularly when they’ve made the switch from the Bundesliga.
Spurs know that all too well themselves as Timo Werner has never managed to produce the same output in England as he has done during his time with RB Leipzig. Spending money on players who have never played in the league is always a risk.

But for every Werner, there is somebody like Son Heung-min who has taken to the English game like a duck to water. The big call from Spurs will be whether they think Guirassy is a Werner or a Son.
At £15million, this could be a gamble worth taking ahead of the start of next season. If Tottenham do decide they want to sign the 28-year-old this summer, they will have to act quickly as several other teams are considering a transfer push.
