Daniel Levy ‘makes Postecoglou sack decision’ after Tottenham defeat v Forest

Ange Postecoglou’s side were beaten for the 18th time in the Premier League this season as Nottingham Forest claimed a 2-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Despite the expectation that the 59-year-old would make changes, Postecoglou named a strong team against the Reds on Monday (21 April), although there was no place for James Maddison.

However, Spurs were still beaten, with Richarlison’s late header merely a consolation after Elliot Anderson and Chris Wood had put the visitors two up inside the opening 20 minutes in North London.

Postecoglou’s full focus will undoubtedly be on lifting the UEFA Europa League, with nothing left to play for domestically. However, it appears as though Levy has already made up his mind on the Australian.

Levy ‘to sack Postecoglou’ at Tottenham

Postecoglou has a chance to make history with Tottenham after guiding the Lilywhites to the Europa League semi-final. However, based on the performance against Forest, it seems as though European success this season is a long shot, and Postecoglou’s days are numbered.

Considering Spurs’ position in the Premier League, Levy is expected to sack Postecoglou if Tottenham fail to win the Europa League this season.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Postecoglou will be sacked even if he wins the Europa League with Spurs.

“Look back at Manchester United last year,” King said.

“Erik ten Hag had a diabolical season, but he won the FA Cup. Therefore, they offered him a new contract. The FA Cup saved him; However, would the Europa League save Postecoglou? I don’t think so.

“There is something not functioning, and I think a change will be made. It is one thing to have an attacking football team, but you’ve got to score goals. However, the main problem is defending. Defensively, Tottenham have been abysmal.”

Tottenham need to move on from Postecoglou

Even if they were to win the Europa League, a club of Spurs’ size and stature cannot accept finishing in such a poor position in the Premier League.

Therefore, even if Postecoglou guides Tottenham to glory in Europe, it feels as though a change needs to be made this summer.
