Daniel Levy hailed as Tottenham chief capitalises on ‘great opportunity’ with lucrative plans
John Wenham has praised Daniel Levy for capitalising on a “great opportunity” at Tottenham after the club announced their plans to visit Japan as part of their pre-season tour.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes that Ange Postecoglou could help the North London side build a fanbase in the East Asian nation.
Spurs will take on J1 League champions Vissel Kobe at the Japan National Stadium on Saturday 27 July as part of their visit to the country (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 25 April).
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes it is a smart move by the club.
“It’s another market which Tottenham have not really ventured too much into,” Wenham said.
“Japan is a massive footballing country and it’s a great opportunity for the club to build a fanbase over there.
“I am not surprised that this has been announced, it is a smart move by Levy and the club, especially with Postecoglou having had a lot of success in the country.
“As a result, I’m sure there will be many fans of his old club coming out to engage with Spurs while they’re over there.”
Tottenham set to benefit from pre-season trip to Japan
Spurs know better than most clubs the importance of having an international fanbase.
Son Heung-min has attracted many South Korean supporters to visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in recent years.
This leads to more money through ticket and merchandise sales, as well as opening up commercial opportunities in South Korea.

If Spurs can utilise Postecoglou’s connection to Japan to foster a similar relationship, it could prove to be very lucrative for Levy and the club.
