Daniel Levy defended amid ‘mighty big’ Morgan Rogers to Tottenham suggestion

Tottenham owner Daniel Levy has been a rod of criticism in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham have failed with a bid for Morgan Gibbs-White and are yet to sign a suitable alternative to the Nottingham Forest star.

Spurs also looked set to sign Eberechi Eze, but arch-rivals Arsenal swooped in to secure his signature.

James Maddison suffered an injury in pre-season, which is set to keep him sidelined for seven months and, as a result, Spurs would like to sign Morgan Rogers as a possible replacement.

Tottenham News presents the exclusive opinion of iconic football commentator Ian Darke.

Levy not to blame for Tottenham transfer failures

Aston Villa star Rogers could be Thomas Frank‘s perfect alternative to Eze, after the Gunners hijacked the Lilywhites’ move.

Darke believes that Rogers would be a fantastic addition for Spurs and that they would be willing to spend a huge sum on him.

He also thinks that it is harsh to blame Levy, especially for the collapse of the Eze signing.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Darke said: “Yes, I would say it is [the type of signing they need to make], PFA Young Player of the Year, terrific young player who has earned his stripes, he’s been out on loan in other divisions, got into the England squad.

“Aston Villa have got some financial issues, hence why they have been so quiet in the market, but I would have thought it would be ‘over my dead body’ trying to sell Morgan Rogers.

“It would take a mighty big effort from Tottenham, to be fair to Daniel Levy, they were prepared to stump up the money for Eberechi Eze, I’d say they were a tad unlucky with that.

“I think Tottenham are showing plenty of ambition, but it would take a mighty big bid, more than £80million, are Tottenham prepared to go that deep?

“The other question is in the state of the current market, is he worth that kind of money? Yes, he probably is for Spurs because they need a number 10.”

Daniel Levy will be forgiven if he seals Morgan Rogers deal

Levy will be forgiven for the failures to capture Gibbs-White and Eze if he can secure a deal for Rogers.

The Spurs chief has clearly tried to make up for the mistakes of the past by backing Frank in the market, but they have been unfortunate as targets have chosen other clubs.

He could redeem himself if Rogers is a Spurs player by the time the deadline rolls around.
