Cristian Romero in trouble behind the scenes at Tottenham after Levy development
Tottenham star Cristian Romero is expected to have gotten in trouble behind the scenes after his recent comments.
Romero, who looks to have suffered a big injury setback [Gastón Edul via X, 9 December], recently appeared to aim a dig at Daniel Levy about the club’s investment [Telemundo Deportes via talkSPORT, 9 December].
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has speculated that these comments might have been a result of the defender being unhappy about one player signed by Spurs during the summer.
According to Ange Postecoglou [via the Mirror, 11 December], Romero has apologised for his comments. However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – still believes that this is a sign for Levy to take a look at himself.
“Those comments would have been badly received behind the scenes,” Wenham said.
“Levy won’t like to receive criticism. Postecoglou said that Romero had apologised, so he was obviously told that what he said wasn’t acceptable.
“However, good for him. This is somebody, who for good or bad, sees himself as a big player. Therefore, when a lot of people are pointing fingers in one direction, perhaps it is time for those people to take a look at themselves.”
Tottenham defender Cristian Romero in trouble after recent comments?
Considering Romero has apologised, it is fair to assume that his comments weren’t received too well behind the scenes. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean what he said wasn’t true.
Romero isn’t the only person who won’t be happy with Levy and ENIC, who have demonstrated a reluctance to invest in Spurs’ squad in the past. Therefore, a lot of fans will likely applaud the 26-year-old for what he said.

However, Romero is an employee of Tottenham, and ENIC and Levy are ultimately the people singing off his paycheques. Therefore, he should be careful about how he acts in the future.
