Cristian Romero hailed after ‘outstanding’ Tottenham scenes v Frankfurt

Cristian Romero looks to have turned things around at Tottenham after what he did against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Spurs booked a place in the UEFA Europa League semi-final and arguably saved Postecoglou from the sack by beating Frankfurt 1-0 at Deutsche Bank Park on Thursday (17 April).

It was perhaps Spurs’ most impressive display under Postecoglou, with Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers reacting to Dominic Solanke after the striker scored the winner from the spot in Germany.

Solanke’s goal was enough to separate the two sides, with the Spurs defenders keeping a rare clean sheet, which likely wouldn’t have been possible without Romero’s contributions.

Romero stars for Tottenham in win v Frankfurt

It has been a difficult season for Romero, who has missed most of the campaign due to injury, which led to the defender aiming a subtle dig at the Tottenham medical staff.

The 26-year-old is expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season. However, based on what happened in Germany, fans will likely be keen for the centre-back to stay.

Romero showed his quality against Frankfurt, with Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – describing the performance as one of the Argentinian’s best in a Spurs shirt.

“This performance against Frankfurt was the opposite of Ange’s usual style of play,” Wenham said.

“We were playing long balls into the channel from the first minute, with Romero looking to find Solanke on several occasions. Guglielmo Vicario was going long as well, not inviting pressure on the defence.

“There was real leadership on display from Romero, who I thought was outstanding. It was a completely different performance from what we saw against Wolves. He put in a top-level performance and showed why so many clubs would want to sign him.

“I don’t know if he got himself up for it because it was a big European night. However, this was one of Romero’s best displays in a Spurs shirt.”

Romero must remain focused at Tottenham

Despite speculation linking him with a move away this summer, Romero must ensure 100 per cent of his focus is on Tottenham at the moment.

The World Cup winner and his teammates have a huge chance to make history in North London. Therefore, any decisions about the future must wait until the end of the season.
