Cristian Romero decision speculated ahead of Tottenham v Chelsea
Bryan King believes Cristian Romero will be the one to decide whether he plays for Tottenham against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
The ex-Spurs scout claims options are becoming thin for Ange Postecoglou, with fears that Ben Davies could be ruled out until January after suffering a hamstring injury in the 1-0 Premier League defeat against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium [5 December].
Chelsea will visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 8 December, with Postecoglou expected to make three changes for the clash.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the Australian might have no choice but to start Romero against the Blues.
“Choices are becoming limited for Postecoglou,” King said.
“Therefore, if Romero is fit, and he has trained, then Postecoglou has to play him against Chelsea. If the player is comfortable, and he says that he can play, then he has to play.
“Options are thin on the ground at the moment. I imagine it will be Romero who makes the decision. If he says he is okay, then he will play.”
Cristian Romero to decide whether he plays for Tottenham against Chelsea?
Postecoglou recently revealed that Romero was due to train with the first team on Friday [6 December, via Football London].
Therefore, if the 26-year-old did train, then Postecoglou needs to start him against Chelsea, even if the defender is not 100 per cent fit.
Radu Drăgușin is the club’s only available senior centre-back, and Postecoglou cannot afford to start a makeshift defence in such a big game, especially not with pressure mounting on him.

As a result, it looks as though Romero will need to be bandaged up and sent out to battle, with the centre-back likely keen himself to play if he has trained.
