Cristian Romero blasted as injury update emerges ahead of Tottenham v Chelsea
John Wenham claims Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has been “terrible’ this season.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose isn’t entirely uplifted by the prospect of the central defender returning for the Premier League clash against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [8 December], a match which could see Ange Postecoglou make three changes.
Postecoglou revealed that Romero was due to return to first-team training ahead of the London derby [via Football London, 6 December].
However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – hasn’t been impressed with the centre-back this term.
“Romero has been terrible this season,” Wenham said.
“Yes, he does make our strongest lineup. However, the reality is that he has been terrible this season. I can think of at least five individual goals that he has been at fault for.
“He needs to return to the team and be the World Cup-winning defender that he has shown he can be in the past. I remember him having some good games against Chelsea before. Therefore, if he does return, he needs to step up. That whole leadership team has been pretty weak as of late, so they all need to come together.”
Cristian Romero to return for Tottenham against Chelsea?
Considering the injuries Spurs are suffering from, including a big blow to Ben Davies, as well as the pressure Postecoglou is under, the Australian will likely take any boost he can get.
Therefore, he will no doubt welcome the return of Romero with open arms. However, it would be fair to suggest that the Argentinian hasn’t been much better than Davies or Radu Drăgușin this season, the players who have been filling in for him.

As a result, he needs to show against Chelsea, should he play, just how good he is and help Tottenham to turn things around in North London.
In other Tottenham news, the club will jet a forward into the UK within days as a January signing is agreed.
