Conor Gallagher to Tottenham ‘growing legs’ with Ange Postecoglou to ignore ‘tradition’

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Ange Postecoglou will pay no attention to “tradition” if he wants Tottenham to press ahead with a move for the “quality” Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, Paul Robinson has said.

Historically the fierce London rivals have not to come to the table to do transfer business but England midfielder Gallagher continues to be linked with a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

talkSPORT reported on 21 December that Spurs and West Ham were monitoring Gallagher’s situation, with Chelsea reportedly ready to sell to help with Financial Fair Play restrictions despite him being a regular under Mauricio Pochettino.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Robinson remains doubtful the two teams can do business but says Postecoglou will not care about any bad blood that has kept the teams from getting around the table in the past.

Speaking to Tottenham News he said: “I’ve always said that these two clubs don’t do business and this is a no.

“But this story is not going away, it keeps growing legs. He’s obviously a quality player, he’s the sort of player who would fit into that three behind the main attacker, give them another option.

“He works extremely hard, he’s not a prospect anymore, he’s fulfilled his talent and he’s got more to give as well. I think he’s got more to give possibly playing even more regularly.

“If Chelsea are willing to listen to offers and Tottenham come to the table it’ll be interesting to see if they deal. The two clubs historically don’t work together, they don’t do deals together, they don’t get on. The player transfers between the two, there’s almost as many as Tottenham to Arsenal, it just doesn’t happen.

“But this story’s not going away, Ange doesn’t seem to be the type of manager who goes along with tradition, he does things his own way, he gets the players who he will want and he’ll play the way that he wants to.

“And if Conor Gallagher fits into that then they may test the water. I can’t see it but it keeps coming back this story.”
