Conor Gallagher set to reject Tottenham in summer with Chelsea fan outrage on the cards

Dan Bardell believes that Conor Gallagher may reject any approach from Tottenham in favour of running down his contract at Chelsea.

The Sun has reported (12 April) that Ange Postecoglou would like to sign the Englishman to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

Given that Gallagher’s contract expires in just over 12 months, Todd Boehly may look to make a pure profit sale this summer rather than lose him for free.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the midfielder may run his contract down and consider his options on a free rather than move to Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “To see Gallagher go to Tottenham, I think that would upset Chelsea fans because he would definitely make Tottenham better.

He’s a very good footballer, better than he gets credit for. He’s a Chelsea boy so would he want to go to Spurs? I’m not sure.

Clubs are in a position with PSR where they need to let go of homegrown players but I don’t think players will want to go or feel that they have to.

He might wait until his contract runs out if Chelsea don’t want him and give himself more options of where to go. I think he’d want to stay at Chelsea.

Connor Gallagher Tottenham links reignited

Tottenham had a largely positive campaign in Postecoglou’s first season in the Premier League despite not qualifying for the Champions League.

With that being said, there were many periods throughout the year where the team was torn apart by injury.

The squad needs to be looked at this summer and some new options need to be brought in to bolster the options available.

Gallagher would certainly be a useful addition to Postecoglou’s midfield conversation, especially with some potential departures.

It is safe to say that the likes of Giovanni Lo Celso, Pierre Emile-Hojberg and even Oliver Skipp might not be good enough as Spurs look to improve.

Gallagher has the ability to play as a box-to-box midfielder but is also capable of featuring in a more attacking role.

It is unclear as to how much he may cost Spurs this summer but with his contract set to run down they could hold more cards in the negotiations.
