Conor Gallagher addition would see Tottenham rival ‘the best in the Premier League’ – Spurs Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Tottenham signing Conor Gallagher would leave the North London club’s midfield options “rivalling the best in the Premier League.”

Spurs have been widely linked with a move for the 23-year-old Chelsea player throughout the January transfer window.

As reported via X by The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg (30 January), Tottenham are still considering making a move for the Englishman this week before the transfer window shuts at 11 pm on Thursday 1 February.

Gallagher has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino, starting 20 Premier League games under the former Spurs boss so far this term.

Should a deal become available before the January window slams shut, Wenham believes Spurs must be alert.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “If there is the option on Thursday to make the call to Chelsea and sign Gallagher for £45million, I do think Tottenham should make that move.

“Suddenly our midfield options would then be rivalling the best in the Premier League.

“By bringing in a homegrown player, it would then allow us to move Oliver Skipp on during the summer.

“We would then have James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Gallagher as midfield options, those are top-level players.

“Therefore, if a deal for Gallagher does present itself, I hope Tottenham are there to step up and make it happen.”

In other Tottenham news, Wenham believes the club must do what they can to keep one ‘Real Madrid-level player’ fit.
