‘Childish’ Neal Maupay proved he ‘lacks class’ after what he did in defeat against Tottenham – Spurs Expert
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has described Neal Maupay’s antics at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as “childish.”
Spurs held on for a 3-2 victory against Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday 31 January which saw Ange Postecoglou’s side return to the Premier League’s top four.
Maupay gave the visitors an early lead and proceeded to mimic James Maddison’s trademark darts celebration.
This riled up the Spurs players who responded with darts celebrations of their own after scoring, and after the match, Maddison took to Instagram (31 January) and posted a picture of Mauypay celebrating accompanied by a picture of the final score, captioning the post, “A short story… COYS”.
The on-loan Brentford man responded in the comments section writing, “Ahahah rent free” before posting a picture himself which he captioned with, “Went a bit early with that one. Gutted we couldn’t get the win. More goals and less relegations in my career than James Maddison. We go again Monday bees”.
It appears as if there is no love lost between the pair, even after the final whistle, and King was full of criticism for the Brentford goalscorer.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “It is childish. I think Maddison is a much better player than Maupay.
“He has won the FA Cup, he doesn’t need to prove himself to anyone. Maupay proved last night that he lacks class.
“You always tell young players don’t win the game before the game is finished. It made me laugh seeing Maupay celebrate like that when Brentford went 1-0 up, then all of a sudden they found themselves 3-1 down as the game went on.
“Maddison did well not to react more strongly than he did. It will certainly be interesting when the two players meet again.

“That seemed to be Brentford’s gameplan, they were doing everything they could to irritate and unsettle Spurs and it backfired for them in the second half.”
In other Tottenham news, King has backed the club to successfully hijack a deal on deadline day after a Fabrizio Romano update.
