Brighton ‘worry’ emerges as Tottenham make loan-to-buy approach

Paul Robinson has warned Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou against signing Barcelona’s Ansu Fati before the transfer window closes.

According to Fichajes, Spurs have sent a proposal to the Nou Camp in an attempt to secure the young winger’s services on a loan deal with an option to buy.

With Barcelona open to the move for their 22-year-old talent, Postecoglou could end the winter transfer window with yet another attacker in his ranks, though Robinson believes that is not an area worth addressing.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I wasn’t impressed with him at Brighton last year, in all honesty. He didn’t perform to a level you’d expect from a Barcelona player, and he’s only made three appearances for them this term.

“22 years old, left-winger, and it’s just going to unbalance the squad more. Tottenham’s priority is in the back two lines, not the front line. Yes, he’s a good player but he’s flattered to deceive.

“He’s a young player with potential but he’s a player who Tottenham don’t need.”

Ansu Fati not the answer to Tottenham problems

Spurs’ attack is heavily stacked heading into the second half of the season, even with Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and James Maddison sidelined.

Postecoglou’s main issue is the number of goals being conceded, but with just hours left of the winter transfer window, Spurs have only been linked with a handful of centre-backs.

Daniel Levy will need to reach into his pockets if the Lilywhites are to get out of their current situation in the Premier League. However, it seems unlikely that a change of manager will happen, as the team is still competing in several competitions.

Investment before the 3 February deadline could help Postecoglou’s side over the line in those competitions and, hopefully, bring some silverware back to Hotspur Way.

In other Tottenham news, the Lilywhites have reached an agreement to sign Fikayo Tomori in a new blockbuster deal.
