BBC Sport pundit reacts after ‘ideal’ Tottenham transfer news last week

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Hugo Lloris’ move from Tottenham to LAFC was “ideal for everyone involved”, Alan Hutton has said.

Spurs confirmed on December 30 that the France World Cup winner would depart north London after 11 years with the club to join MLS outfit LAFC.

Lloris 447 appearances for the club during that time, establishing himself as a modern-day great at Spurs and spending nine years as captain.

There were plenty of rumours of a summer exit after Lloris announced an intention to move on and Ange Postecoglou brought in Guglielmo Vicario as his new first-choice shot-stopper.

Former Spurs defender Hutton, speaking to Tottenham News, is disappointed things didn’t end on a better note for Lloris but is happy a solution has finally been found for all involved.

“I think it’s a shame but there was a lot of pressure on him before when he was in goals with the mistakes and different things,” he said.

“He’d been at the club a long time, he was the captain. It is a shame how it’s ended because you don’t want to remember him for the end you want to remember him for what he’s done for the rest of his time at Tottenham.

“It’s no surprise that he’s leaving, I think the bigger surprise is that he’s still been there for this period of time that he hasn’t been playing.

“So for him to go away to LA at his age, it’s probably something he fancies, his family would like it. It’s ideal for everyone involved.
