Arsenal gem Myles Lewis-Skelly ‘to cause complication’ for Djed Spence
Tottenham star Djed Spence could see Arsenal sensation Myles Lewis-Skelly prevent him from achieving a great feat.
As a result of the injury crisis at Tottenham, Postecoglou has been forced to call on Spence much more than he likely would have anticipated doing so at the beginning of the season.
However, this has proven to be a blessing in disguise, with Spence one of Spurs’ most impressive performers in recent weeks, despite playing out of position at left-back.
The 24-year-old was named man of the match in the 1-0 Premier League win over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (16 February).
As a result, an England call-up has been mooted for Spence. However, that could now be complicated by the emergence of Lewis-Skelly.
Myles Lewis-Skelly to block England chance for Tottenham star Djed Spence?
Lewis-Skelly has burst onto the scene in North London this season.
The 18-year-old has started eight of Arsenal’s last 10 matches in the Premier League and grabbed the headlines with some of his eye-catching performances.
As a result, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Spence’s path to the England team might not be as clear as it could have been.
“I don’t think Spence is far off an England call-up,” Wenham said.
“Especially when you consider the fact that he can play at right-back and left-back, which makes him a versatile option when picking a team for a tournament.
“However, the emergence of Lewis-Skelly does complicate things a little bit. If not for Lewis-Skelly, I would think that Spence would have quite a clear run at the left-back spot.
“Obviously, you’ve got Lewis Hall coming through at Newcastle United too. However, I do think Spence has a really good chance at getting in the next squad.”
Djed Spence continues to shine at Tottenham
While there does seem to suddenly be a bit of added competition for the left-back spot under Thomas Tuchel, that doesn’t mean Spence will necessarily miss out.
Lewis-Skelly has been impressive in recent months and looks to be a real talent. However, Spence has also shone in that time, and he has performed in a team which is struggling a lot more than Arsenal.

Therefore, the defender has proven his worth and deserves a chance to show Tuchel what he can do.
