Antonio Nusa summer transfer still on Tottenham ‘back burner’ after failed January move

Tottenham could still sign Antonio Nusa during the summer transfer window, but a move for the young winger will now be on the “back burner”, according to Alan Hutton.

The 18-year-old winger seemed destined to complete a move to Brentford in the final days of the January transfer window, before complications arose in his medical to put the breaks on the move and leave the door open for other teams to swoop in [Sky Sports, 30 January].

Tottenham News reported that Spurs and Ange Postecoglou remained keen on trying to get a deal over the line in the final days of the window, but for whatever reason no such transfer materialised and Nusa will remain a Club Brugge player until the end of the season.

While there is plenty of football to be played between now and the end of the season, Hutton expects Spurs to keep working on a deal for the Norwegian gem and admits he wouldn’t be surprised to see Postecoglou’s side reignite their interest.

“It wouldn’t surprise me,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“When we talk about a lot of the targets and we talk about transfer windows, they’ve looked at these guys for months, it’s not like they’ve made a quick decision so they have put time and effort into these players.

“For whatever reason it has not actually happened, but it will be on the back burner and they’ll obviously see how the player progresses between now and the end of the season.

“If he still ticks all the boxes for them then of course it’s not going to go away and that is a better window to sign players so I wouldn’t be surprised if we heard about it again.”

Tottenham may be ready to complete summer transfer for Antonio Nusa

Nusa has been in fine form in Belgium this season, registering three goals and two assists in just seven league starts. While he remains an incredibly raw talent, he would add an extra dimension to Postecoglou’s attack that would be incredibly exciting.

A lot could hinge on the remainder of the season, not only from the teenager’s perspective but also Spurs’ as they may opt to make Timo Werner’s loan switch permanent or invest elsewhere rather than bring Nusa to North London.

While it remains a possibility that the Norwegian international could be lining up alongside Richarlison and Son Heung-min next season, this deal remains on the back burner for now.
