Ange Postecoglou to axe Mikey Moore for Tottenham v Liverpool – Insider

Mikey Moore is expected to be axed when Tottenham travel to Liverpool on Thursday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will take on the Reds in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield on 6 February holding a 1-0 lead after the first leg – which saw Richarlison involved in a bizarre incident – at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday 8 January.

Moore started for Spurs last time out but was criticised for his “naive” performance in the 2-0 Premier League win against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday (2 February), with the 17-year-old hooked at the break.

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Postecoglou might go with a more experienced team on Merseyside.

“Despite all the injuries, I do think we have some better options now, with the likes of Ben Davies available and now Kevin Danso,” Wenham said.

“We could see a midfield three of Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and maybe even Archie Gray. That would mean a front three of Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Richarlison.

“Moore could keep his place, but I think it is such a big ask for a 17-year-old to play in a semi-final at Anfield. Therefore, he will likely come out the side.”

Ange Postecoglou to axe Mikey Moore for Tottenham v Liverpool?

Beating Liverpool at Anfield is one of the most difficult things to do in English football. Luckily for Postecoglou and his players, they only need to draw the match.

However, even that could prove tricky, especially with the number of players they have ruled out, as yet another player suffered a major injury blow which will see him ruled out for the rest of the season [via Jack Pitt-Brooke, 3 February].

Therefore, Postecoglou is going to need absolutely everything from the players he does have at his disposal, and naming a more experienced team in such a big match would make sense.
