Ange Postecoglou snub shows Japhet Tanganga’s Tottenham career is over after January loan move to Millwall – Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Japhet Tanganga’s Tottenham career looks over after being overlooked all season by Ange Postecoglou, says Paul Robinson.
In the view of the Sky Sports pundit the writing is already on the wall for a defender who didn’t get a single game under the Australian during a major selection crisis at the back brought on by injuries and suspensions, and has now gone on loan to Millwall.
The 24-year-old has played 50 times for the club but has only seen two brief substitute appearances for the club in more than a year and didn’t feature once while on loan at Augsburg last season amid injury.
Ex-England and Tottenham keeper Robinson is disappointed not to see the “really good young talent” go onto establish himself at the club after his early breakthrough, but with his contract set to expire after next season he has probably already played his last Spurs game.
He exclusively told Tottenham News: “With 18 months to go if the manager’s letting you go out on loan to a Championship side because you’re not getting into a team that’s struggled for defenders all season then you’ve got a lot of work to do to prove your worth at the club.
“I thought that he would break into the team. He had a couple of appearances where I was really impressed with him, especially his debut. He looked like a really good young talent.
“But for whatever reason he hasn’t been able to carry that on under Ange. Going out on loan to a Championship side with 18 months left, with the injury and suspension problems that Spurs have had in the area that he plays, yet he’s not really had an opportunity.

“He’s gone out on loan, come back, gone out on loan again, so you would think that he’s now looking after himself and getting game time in order to further his career.
“But, in all honestly, probably elsewhere.”
In other Tottenham news, an English club’s hopes of signing a Spurs player before the deadline have been ruthlessly crushed.
