Ange Postecoglou sack verdict emerges at Tottenham

Tottenham must give Ange Postecoglou time after the club missed out on Champions League qualification this season, Paul Robinson has said.

The Australian arrived in London last summer, with many questioning his appointment. However, he has quickly earned the respect of the Spurs faithful and will have impressed Daniel Levy so far.

Some have suggested that Postecoglou could be sacked ahead of the 2024/25 season following a handful of poor results during the campaign, though that seems to only be a minority.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson does not believe Postecoglou’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is at risk but admits Spurs will need to change their tactics next season.

“Not at risk, no. It depends on how the season pans out, but progression is the biggest thing at Tottenham – progression and seeing the club going in the right direction,” he said.

“The biggest thing for next season, the challenge that Postecoglou will face, is that some teams have worked Tottenham out, and the high line they like to play. Some teams have worked out how to score against them and how to beat them.

“Against the better teams, they did get found out a couple of times. That will be the challenge next season, whether there is a different style of play, a plan B to plan A. The recruitment will also be interesting this summer.

“I think Paratici will have his fingerprints all over that. But whether Ange gets the opportunity to bring in the type of player he wants to fit his system and the way he plays, you’d like to think so. He’s earned the right to do that.

“The best gift you can give a manager is time. Mauricio Pochettino is the perfect example of that, and then they go and sack him. Over the course of the season, they’ve ended up finishing in a European place from where they were mid-season when a lot of Chelsea fans wanted him sacked.

“You look at the progression over the last 12 months, with how well the team are playing, that’s what a good manager does. Ange just needs to show progression. A Champions League challenge will be expected because of this season, finishing fifth season.

“The minimum requirement next season is the same again, hopefully, with a long run in the Europa League and a cup run.”

Is Ange Postecoglou’s future safe at Tottenham?

Fans will be hoping that Spurs and Levy learn from the revolving door at Stamford Bridge after Pochettino’s exit was confirmed earlier this week.

Despite the blow of missing out on the Champions League this season, it is clear that Tottenham are steering themselves into the right direction under Postecoglou’s leadership.

Of course, the team’s high line has been questioned, especially in the second half of the Premier League season, which saw Spurs drop out of the top four spots.

This will certainly be something that needs to change over the summer, though Postecoglou’s reign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is unlikely to be under threat.
