Ange Postecoglou sack verdict emerges after Tottenham defeat v Liverpool

Ange Postecoglou will be feeling the pressure after Tottenham lost 6-3 to Liverpool on Sunday.

Spurs remain 11th in the Premier League after Liverpool ran riot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 22 December, with Gary Neville laughing at what one player did in the defeat.

After important back-to-back wins, Postecoglou’s side once again displayed all too-familiar defensive weaknesses, with Jamie Redknapp blasting the “mess” at the back.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think the Australian’s job is in any immediate danger, although admits that something isn’t right in North London.

“It has been a funny week for Postecoglou,” King said.

“This is only his second season, it has been getting ridiculous all this chopping and changing managers over the past couple of years. Things like that don’t help the stability of the club.

“However, Postecoglou has got to remember that if you’re going to play football then you need to defend sometimes too. I don’t think he is in any immediate danger, but Spurs need to win matches. As long as he wins them, people won’t knock him, but losing 6-3 at home to anybody is not a good sign.

“Something’s not right at Tottenham.”

Ange Postecoglou safe despite Tottenham defeat against Liverpool?

It feels as though Postecoglou had eased some of the pressure on his shoulders after wins against Southampton and more importantly Manchester United.

However, after the nature of the defeat against Liverpool, questions might be rasied again.

For now, it looks as though the attention of fans is on Daniel Levy, especially after what they did in the defeat to Liverpool [via BBC Sport, 5:00 pm, 22 December].

Therefore, Postecoglou will be hoping the Spurs chairman doesn’t make any big decisions to try and deflect some of the heat off of himself.
