Ange Postecoglou exit prediction at Tottenham amid Liverpool new manager development

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will not “jump ship” and leave North London for the Liverpool manager’s job this summer, according to Alan Hutton.

The Australian has enjoyed a good first season at Spurs and his success in London and Scotland has seen pundits link him with the vacant position at Anfield as the Reds begin the process of replacing the outgoing Jurgen Klopp [talkSPORT, 29 March].

Most had expected Liverpool to appoint former midfielder Xabi Alonso, but the Bayer Leverkusen boss has now confirmed that he will be remaining with the Bundesliga leaders to help them in the Champions League next season.

While that will mean that the Reds will have to go back to the drawing board, Hutton doesn’t believe Postecoglou would even consider the approach if he was offered the position due to his current project at Spurs.

“I can’t see him leaving,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“Not right now. I just don’t see him as that type of guy, he’s so down to earth, you can hear the way that he talks. I just don’t see him upping sticks and leaving after the time that he’s been here.

“He’s creating something at Tottenham, I think he’ll be backed by Daniel Levy and they’ll bring in the targets that he wants. They’re in a good place right now.

“I know they’ve not won a trophy since 2008 and every manager before him has tried to fix that, I’m sure he’ll be desperate to as he is a winner himself.

“I just don’t think he’ll jump ship, I genuinely don’t think he’s that type of guy.”

Will Liverpool look to appoint Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou?

Postecoglou has quite quickly become one of the most popular managers in the English game and his attacking style of play will mean that teams both in the Premier League and beyond will be keen to poach him from Spurs.

However, Tottenham have already taken big steps forward under the Australian’s management and with Levy expected to back him in the transfer market this summer, challenging for trophies may genuinely be possible next year.

Hopefully, Hutton will be right and Postecoglou will reject any approaches from Anfield if the Reds come knocking. That way, Spurs can begin preparing to take more strides forward next term under their current boss.
