Ange Postecoglou exit prediction at Tottenham after new Ruben Amorim to Liverpool update

Liverpool will have “other options” ahead of Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou in their search for a new manager despite looking set to miss out on Ruben Amorin, according to Alan Hutton.

The Sporting Lisbon boss had appeared set to take over the reins from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer, but reports in Portugal suggest that neither the Reds nor West Ham United will appoint the manager [Record, 23 April].

Liverpool have already missed out on Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso who is set to remain in Germany and the Reds seem to be running out of options, with Postecoglou previously mooted as a potential target [talkSPORT, 29 March].

While Hutton believes the Spurs boss would be a perfect fit for the current squad at Anfield, he doesn’t think Postecoglou would be in any rush to leave North London and expects the Reds to look elsewhere for their new head coach.

“I think in terms of the way he plays football then yes,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“We’ve seen what he’s done at Tottenham in a short period of time. I think Liverpool have other options and Ange is happy where he is at this moment in time. He’s working on something, yes they’ve had blips but that’s because of their style and the way that they play.

“They’re happy for a team to score one or two goals because they feel that they’ll score three or four and he’ll want to make this better. He’s had a really good first season, he’ll want to improve on that going into the next.

“They’re still fighting for fourth, I know Villa are six points ahead but they’ve got two games in hand and really need to go on a run. The problem they’ll have at this moment in time is the fixtures that they’ve got.

“The next three are the top teams so whether they can do that or not it is going to be really difficult, but I don’t see Ange leaving if I’m honest any time soon.”

Will Ange Postecoglou leave Tottenham for Liverpool amid Ruben Amorim updates?

It has been a mixed first season for Postecoglou in the Premier League, but most pundits and supporters have agreed that for the most part, the Australian has done a good job in North London and changed things for the better.

The attacking, front-foot style of football has got the best out of the likes of Son Heung-min and Richarlison in particular while Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro have flourished in their new defensive roles.

This is just the start of what promises to be an exciting project under the former Celtic boss in North London and it seems unlikely he would be willing to throw that away after just a year in the dugout.

Hopefully, Hutton’s prediction will be true and Postecoglou will remain in charge for years to come, even if Liverpool do come knocking.
