Ange Postecoglou can ‘build for the future’ with Antonio Nusa transfer as £25m update emerges at Tottenham

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Alan Hutton is thrilled that Tottenham Hotspur are building “for the future”, as they look to complete a deal to sign Club Brugge winger Antonio Nusa this month.

Tottenham News has been told by a recruitment source with links to Scandinavian football that Johan Lange is very keen on bringing the 18-year-old to North London and intends on using his links to secure the left-winger’s services.

Nusa is reportedly valued at around £25million by Club Brugge currently [Evening Standard, 19 January], but Fabrizio Romano [19 January] has reported that Spurs are still pushing to get a deal over the line with talks continuing between the two clubs.

While Hutton doesn’t expect the teenager to make an immediate impact should he make the switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he does believe this would be an excellent piece of business to help Spurs on a long-term basis.

“I think it is good,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“They’ve sent out scouts to watch him and they’ve obviously been impressed with everything that he’s going to bring to the table. I think they need that kind of attacking midfielder that is going to help.

“Obviously you’ve got James Maddison and these kinds of guys, Son’s away at this moment in time but I think you need other options and that was an area where for me, they needed to bring someone in.

“When you look at ages and different things, is he going to be coming in to be a regular starter? Maybe not at this moment in time, but I think you need to build for the future.

“Yes, you can bring players in for immediate effect, but I think you need to look long-term as well. I think it could be amazing business for Tottenham.”

In 15 Belgian first-division appearances for Club Brugge this season, Nusa has managed to score three goals and pop up with three assists while also impressing for Norway on the international stage, scoring once and laying on three assists in four appearances.

While it remains to be seen whether or not Ange Postecoglou’s side will make a move for the young winger before the end of the January window, it is clear that the teenager would be a very exciting addition for the future in North London.
