Andrea Cambiasso to want Tottenham transfer as fresh Italian transfer speculation emerges

Dan Bardell believes Juventus ace Andrea Cambiasso would be a useful signing for Tottenham Hotspur this summer as Ange Postecoglou seeks backup options for Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro.

Although it didn’t end in ideal circumstances, Spurs had a great first season even if Champions League qualification was missed out on.

In his debut season, Postecoglou was let down at times by injuries to his full-backs which hampered his side’s form throughout the campaign.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes Udogie and Porro are very important and signing someone like Cambiasso could be a clever move this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “I think it makes sense to have a player who can cover both right and left back.

I think Spurs have struggled when they’ve not had either fullback there because their deputies aren’t capable of doing what Postecoglou wants to do.

Cambiasso covering either side would be a good thing. Having multifunctional players really helps when you are trying to build a squad.

Would he want to move? Maybe, everybody wants to play in the Premier League, don’t they?

It’s early on his career so it will be interesting to see what happens with him over the summer because I think he’ll have suitors.

Tottenham linked to Andrea Cambiasso summer signing

Calcio Mercato has reported (22 May) that Spurs and Aston Villa are interested in signing the Italian this summer.

There had been conversations for Juventus with Manchester United and Arsenal in the past with no move ever materialising.

The Italian outlet has suggested that up to £34m could be offered by a Premier League side this summer to secure his signature.

A move may not be possible until further into pre-season so that new Juve manager Thiago Motta can take a look and consider his options.

The question still stands, however, should Tottenham and Postecoglou look to sign him in the transfer window.

Cambiasso is so versatile, being able to play on either flank in a defensive or attacking way while occasionally operating as a midfielder at times this season.

This could see him being well suited to Postecoglou’s system as a full-back who attacks and comes inside to join the midfield conversation.

The fee being spoken about may be too high for Spurs given that he is a squad player but could prove to be an important member of the squad next season.
