Alan Hutton predicts result of Tottenham Premier League showdown v Brighton

Tottenham Hotspur will get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they face Brighton on Saturday 10 February, according to Alan Hutton.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are looking to bounce back from their late draw away to Everton last time out when they welcome Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, knowing a win will take them back into the Premier League’s top four.

When the two sides met over the festive period, it was a chaotic clash that had everything, with Brighton claiming all three points with a 4-2 win after late goals from Ben Davies and Alejo Veliz threatened a last-gasp comeback from Tottenham.

Former Spurs defender and now BBC Sport pundit Hutton expects Saturday’s tie to be just as chaotic but thinks that Postecoglou’s defensive combination of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven will help Tottenham claim all three points.

“This game could have anything, it’s one of them,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“We all know how Tottenham play with their high line, they’re aggressive, they press, they leave opportunities for their opponent. Obviously, the two centre-halves being back and their pace helps out a lot.

“But Brighton on their day can beat anyone so I think this could be an open game with plenty of goals. How do you put a score on this one? I’ll go 2-1 Tottenham.

“It could be about four each, it could be a 3-3 or a 3-2, but I’ll go conservative.”

Ange Postecoglou must continue strong Tottenham run v Brighton

The tie against Brighton earlier this season saw Tottenham field a backline which had Emerson Royal and Davies as its defensive pairing. While both players have impressed this season, they are nowhere near as strong as both Romero and Van de Ven.

Postecoglou will hope that his more experienced and slightly more resolute backline will help Spurs claim all three points and prevent Brighton from flexing their own attacking muscles going forward.

As Hutton has suggested, this game could go either way and the only guarantee seems to be that there will be goals. Spurs fans and Postecoglou will just be hoping that they go the way of the home side, especially with Son Heung-Min returning to the fold.

In other Tottenham news, Hutton believes talks with Postecoglou would have helped Spurs beat Barcelona in the transfer race for one “wonderkid”
