Postecoglou ‘makes Bergvall decision after clash with Tottenham fans’
Ange Postecoglou has had his fair share of run-ins with the Tottenham supporters, and it appears as though the Australian has been impacted by this.
It hasn’t been an easy season for Postecoglou, who looks likely to be sacked by Daniel Levy if Spurs fail to reach the last four of the UEFA Europa League when they travel to Germany on Thursday (17 April).
Should Postecoglou be relieved of his duties, he will no doubt blame injuries for disrupting Spurs’ season, with the 59-year-old sharing the latest on Dejan Kulusevski after the 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (10 April).
However, the Spurs boss also hasn’t helped himself after continually clashing with his fans, most recently making a gesture toward the Tottenham away end during the 1-0 Premier League defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, 3 April.
And it appears as though these incidents have had an impact on Postecoglou after what happened against Frankfurt on Thursday.

Postecoglou’s substitutions v Frankfurt ‘impacted by fan reaction’
Postecoglou’s decision to replace Bergvall with Pape Matar Sarr against Chelsea did not go down well among the traveling fans, and the Tottenham boss was slammed for his reaction to the criticism.
Bergvall started and completed 90 minutes against Frankfurt, with Glen Hoddle full of praise for the Swede.
Tottenham 2024/25 | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Lucas Bergvall | 41 | 1 | 4 |
And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Postecoglou’s decision to leave Bergvall on the pitch would have been influenced by the scenes at Stamford Bridge.
“I thought Bergvall was outstanding,” Wenham said.
“It was quite noticeable that when Postecoglou made his triple substitution, Bergvall wasn’t one of the three players who was replaced, as he normally would have been.
“I don’t know if that’s because Postecoglou was afraid of how fans would react or just because of how well Bergvall was playing. For me, it was probably mostly due to how well he was playing.
“However, I think fan reaction played a part too, because there would have been a lot of unhappy supporters had Bergvall been replaced yesterday. A really strong performance from the 19-year-old.”

Postecoglou must continue to listen to fans at Tottenham
If Postecoglou wants any chance of being successful in North London, he needs to keep fans on his side.
There is a very good chance that the former Celtic manager will be sacked before next season. However, if he does manage to keep his job, he needs to improve his relationship with the Tottenham supporters if he wants to be successful in the long term.
