Tottenham have ‘clear path’ for Rashford move after ‘major’ Kyle Walker news

Tottenham have been given a clear path to sign Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford.

The 27-year-old has made clear his intentions to leave Old Trafford, and ex-Spurs man Michael Dawson believes the Red Devils will sanction a loan move in the winter transfer window (Sky Sports News, 18 January, 7:12pm).

However, European giants AC Milan and Barcelona are also firmly in the hunt for his signature, with the former leading the race after Gianluca Di Marzio reported that the Serie A outfit expected a decision from the Englishman on Wednesday (15 January).

Now, unless Barcelona can find the financial wiggle room, Rashford’s future will remain in the Premier League, as per Fabrizio Romano (22 January), the Rossoneri have chosen to use their last remaining loan spot on Manchester City defender Kyle Walker.

Kyle Walker deal helps Tottenham to sign Marcus Rashford

According to Serie A rules, clubs can only sign one British player per year, meaning AC Milan are no longer in the running for Rashford (The Mirror, 22 January).

This is a major boost for Ange Postecoglou, who can now take a free swing at convincing the forward to ply his trade at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this year.

Barcelona are a well-documented financial mess and as they struggle to register Dani Olmo to their La Liga squad, there is no conceivable way the Catalans can afford his reported £325,000-a-week wages.

Therefore, unless Rashford is content with picking up payslips on the sidelines at Old Trafford, his only option for game time for the rest of the season lies in North London.

The longer the saga drags on, the more likely Jim Ratcliffe will dip into his own pocket to subsidise a large portion of the wages to ensure the forward is off the books for now.

With Tottenham rooted in the bottom half of the Premier League, signing a player of his quality is exactly what Postecoglou needs to fire his side up the table and ease the ever-growing pressure on his future.

However, there is a catch: Manchester City could now look to recruit Pedro Porro to replace the outgoing Walker. For now, the right-back’s move to AC Milan is positive news for the Spurs.
