Tottenham fans cannot believe what Rodrigo Bentancur has done: ‘Disgraceful’

Tottenham supporters were baffled by what Rodrigo Bentancur did in the 2-2 draw against Wolves on Sunday.

The Uruguayan midfielder was booked in the 97th minute for a late challenge on Joao Gomes as Spurs were held to another poor result, drawing 2-2 on 29 December.

The caution means that he will be suspended when Spurs host Newcastle on 4 January after accumulating five yellow cards so far this season.

This was the 27-year-old’s second league match back from a seven-game ban served for using a racial slur about teammate Son Heung-Min in a TV interview back in June in his native country.

Tottenham fans disappointed with Bentancur

It is safe to say that Lilywhites supporters were not impressed with the Uruguayan’s discipline, one fan commented in a post on X, saying: “Rodrigo Bentancur, fresh back following a ban, lunges in on 96 minutes, collects a needless fifth yellow card, and now misses yet another game, against Newcastle… Brainless. Absolutely brainless.”

Another commented: “Incredibly immature and disgraceful for Bentancur to go into that challenge in stoppage time, knowing how thin the squad is and that he’s a booking away from suspension.”

It was a poor decision to give away a foul so late on in the game given the ramifications if he received a booking.

The former Juventus man was Spurs’ second-oldest outfield player against Wolves and should have shown more discipline with his level of experience.

His contributions had been crucial before the unfortunate booking, he made numerous key defensive actions and scored the Lilywhites’ early equalising goal with a powerful header from a corner

Bentancur is Spurs’ best midfielder by a comfortable margin, it will be a huge blow that he is sitting in the stands against the Magpies for Ange Postecoglou, who is under severe pressure in North London.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou could be sleepwalking towards the sack after his recent comments.
