Richarlison ‘finished’ at Tottenham after latest £62.5m transfer news
Tottenham have been in poor form since the 2024/25 season kicked off.
While Ange Postecoglou is no doubt trying to figure out a way to try and set things straight and get Spurs back on track, it feels like it’s been taking far too long for any progress to get made.
Daniel Levy did eventually back the Australian in the winter transfer window as the arrivals of Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso were welcomed in the dying embers.
Injuries have been Spurs’ main problem this season with their defence and attack both getting taken apart by the sheer quantity of long-term and short-term absences they’ve suffered.
While new faces were added to try and bolster their ranks, it feels like there’s been nowhere near enough fight shown by Levy to try and get Spurs back up the table.
Wolves star Matheus Cunha to cost Tottenham £62.5m
One of Spurs’ main absences this season has been that of Dominic Solanke. The striker has been ruled out for an extended period and if the last few weeks have proven anything, it’s that Tottenham miss their talisman.
The Englishman was Spurs’ biggest signing in the summer and, before his injury, he was arguably one of their most important players.
He was Tottenham’s focal point and without him, Postecoglou could have found himself in an even worse position than where he currently finds himself.
And, even though Richarlison is supposed to be his backup, it feels like the Brazilian hasn’t fulfilled that role to the best of his capability.
Which is why it’s no surprise that after it was shared that Matheus Cunha’s new deal at Wolves included a release clause of £62.5million [Daily Mail], Tottenham were among the teams interested in acquiring his services next summer.
The former Atletico Madrid attacker has been Wolves’ best player by some distance this term and is one of the main reasons why they’re not completely down and out in the Premier League relegation battle just yet.

He’s already bagged 11 goals this season and has even set his teammates up on four separate occasions.
In addition to his keen eye for goal, the versatility he could bring to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would be second to none and would give Postecoglou plenty of different options to explore.
Which, when looking back on how the 2024/25 season has panned out for Postecoglou’s men injury-wise, is evidently crucial.
What could this mean for Richarlison?
As aforementioned, Richarlison has performed well below par this term and has often left fans questioning why Spurs brought him to North London in the first place.
If Cunha does make a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window, it feels highly likely that the Brazilian could be finished at Tottenham.
With transfer rumours already starting to heat up about where his future could lie. Cunha is a much better profile of a player than the former Everton man for a number of reasons.
One of the main ones being that he’s nowhere near as injury-prone as the former Everton man has turned out to be.
But, the fact he could be brought in for a fee of just £62.5million is no doubt a major selling point, especially for a Premier League-proven striker.
Only time will tell if Levy and Postecoglou take the plunge in the summer but if they do, it’ll likely mean the end of the road for Richarlison.
Which, at the moment, seems like the best thing for both parties.
