Postecoglou has ‘new leader’ at Tottenham after ‘Fantastic’ moment v Man United

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham have been through a torrid time this season due to the poor form they’ve shown on the pitch.

While they may not be in the bottom three of the Premier League, the fact they’re 12th in the top flight and 14 points adrift of the top four is a massive cause for concern.

A large section of fans have called for the head of Postecoglou but Daniel Levy – who has not escaped the ire of supporters himself – has stood by his manager and has kept him in the role despite the recent form his team have shown.

Kevin Danso is the new Tottenham ‘leader

The winter transfer window didn’t likely have the outcome that Tottenham wanted either with only two outfield players coming in to try and solve their consistent injury problems.

Their defensive line is the area that has been most affected by injuries this term with both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero finding themselves sidelined for extended periods.

However, Kevin Danso, who was one of the two outfield players brought in during the winter window, could end up becoming a key player for Tottenham.

He’s slotted straight into Postecoglou’s plans in North London and while he may only be on loan for now, he could have his move made permanent if his form keeps up to the recent levels he’s shown.

In fact, former Premier League midfielder Darren Ambrose has lauded the Austrian for his performance against Manchester United last time out where he saw the centre-back as one of Spurs’ newest “leaders”.

“In terms of Kevin Danso coming into the team, the biggest compliment you can give him is he’s looked like he’s been there for years,” he said on the Inside Spurs Podcast (18 February).

“He’s come in, he looks assured. He’s done a recovery tackle on Sunday on Hojlund, who’s not slow, by the way, which was fantastic on Sunday.

“So yeah, it doesn’t look like a new signing and he looks like he’s a leader.”

Ange Postecoglou needs to get Spurs back on track

As we’re now entering the final third of the Premier League season, now is the time for clubs to dig their heels in and get as much as possible out of the campaign.

While it’s out of the question that Tottenham will finish in the top four this term, they still have the Europa League to think about.

And, with Danso helping to lead and solidify their defensive line, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to bring the title back to England.

Tottenham managed to beat the Red Devils 1-0 on 16 February thanks to Danso’s heroic display and while he may not be on the same level as Van de Ven or Romero, he’s a more than solid stop-gap for now.

Which is why Spurs’ fans will likely be hoping that the injury he sustained against Ruben Amorim’s men last week will be one that he can shake off.
