Tottenham are increasingly unlikely to sign Marcus Rashford in the winter transfer window as the Manchester United star finally closes in on an exit.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg (16 January), reports that Borussia Dortmund are now pushing to seal a loan deal for Rashford after their latest defeat.

Dortmund need a replacement for Donyell Malen, another reported Spurs target (Caught Offside, 8 January) who instead joined Aston Villa, with AC Milan lurking too.

The attacker made it clear he was seeking a "new challenge" from Old Trafford and has since been on the periphery under Ruben Amorim, which had spiked Tottenham's intrigue to arrange a move.

Marcus Rashford set to move abroad after Tottenham interest

If it were to be an initial loan before deciding on a more settled destination in the summer, Rashford's options would solely hinge on what he could do this season.

As it is, Dortmund and Milan are both competing in the Champions League and are fairly likely to qualify automatically for the last 16 - at the very least the duo are expected to secure a play-off spot for the knockout rounds.

Rashford featured in the Europa League earlier this season for Manchester United, which would render the England ace cup-tied to play in the same competition for Tottenham this term.

Spurs have already suffered a major blow with their suggested primary target, French international star Randal Kolo Muani, now set to move from Paris Saint-Germain to Juventus.

Supporters are losing patience at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with injuries and a lack of organisation plaguing their side, who sit 13th in the Premier League table with 11 defeats from 21 matches.
