Lankshear ‘exit on the cards’ after what Tottenham gem Ellis Lehane has done

Will Lankshear could be allowed to leave Tottenham as a result of Ellis Lehane’s impressive form.

Dominic Solanke is set for six weeks on the sidelines due to injury [via Football London, 23 January], with Spurs backed to sign a striker to fill in for the England international [via GiveMeSport, 15 January].

However, until a new frontman arrives, Richarlison and Lankshear are all that Ange Postecoglou has. As a result, a potential loan exit for Lankshear has broken down.

Tottenham News understands that Lankshear is keen to secure a move away from Tottenham in the winter transfer window, although it doesn’t appear as though Postecoglou is in a position to allow the 19-year-old to leave the club.

However, Lehane’s form for Spurs’ Under-18s could change that.

Ellis Lehane to replace Will Lankshear at Tottenham?

Lehane has scored six goals in 10 Under-18 Premier League appearances for Stuart Lewis’ side this season. However, what is more impressive is that he has scored in his last three league matches on the bounce, and last four in all competitions – netting in the FA Youth Cup recently.

While Lehane doesn’t yet have any experience with the first-team, Postecoglou has demonstrated he isn’t afraid to throw youngsters in at the deep end, and it isn’t as if Lankshear is the most experienced first-team player anyway.

Therefore, if last season’s top scorer for the Under-21s is that desperate to head out on loan before 3 February, Postecoglou could draft Lehane in to act as a backup striker for Richarlison, which would allow Lankshear to make his move.

Any decision would only be temporary, as once Solanke returns, he will come straight back into the team, and Richarlison would take the place of backup striker.

Therefore, this could be a move which works for all parties and allows both Lankshear and Lehane to get some valuable experience of first-team football.
