James Maddison in trouble as Tottenham eye £50m transfer

Tottenham are plotting a transfer move for Georgiy Sudakov and that could signal the end of James Maddison in North London.

According to TBR Football on 29 November, Spurs sent scouts to watch the Ukraine international in action as his side Shakhtar Donetsk succumbed to a 3-2 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday [27 November].

Ange Postecoglou’s side are one of five Premier League clubs to have made enquiries for the 22-year-old, who is valued at £50million, over the last 18 months.

Postecoglou has enough defensive-minded midfielders in his ranks in the shape of Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, but the same is not true for attacking options.

Of course, Maddison remains contracted to Tottenham until 2028, but the England international has often struggled to balance his responsibilities in defence and attack.

Spurs have at times looked off-balance in midfield with the 28-year-old in the team and this is why a player like Sudakov would make a lot of sense for Postecoglou.

Sudakov, who has bagged eight goals and three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions for Shakhtar this season, displayed his potential in a 1-0 Champions League loss to Arsenal on 22 October.

He registered 71 touches and completed 50 of his 58 passes with 86 per cent success, playing two key passes in the process. The midfielder also completed two of his three dribbles, while also winning two of his five ground duels.
