James Maddison ‘finished’ at Tottenham after latest transfer news
James Maddison has been an impressive player for Tottenham since he arrived at North London in 2023.
The Englishman has been one of Spurs’ best players this season in a campaign when not all that much has gone right for Ange Postecoglou and his men.
While he hasn’t been a guaranteed starter week-in and week-out, more often than not when called upon, the attacking midfielder has earned the North London outfit points thanks to his performances.
However, a recent report from GiveMeSport (23 January) has shared that Angel Gomes is now “keen” on a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as he has entered the final six months of his contract at Lille.
The report shares that Postecoglou and his men are “putting together a proposal” for the 24-year-old despite the lurking interest of his former club, Manchester United.
Tottenham may end up letting James Maddison go
As both Gomes and Maddison play in a similar position, it feels like the former Leicester man could end up being finished in North London.
While it’s plausible that Postecoglou could try and make room for them both by using one on the wing and one in their natural number 10 role, neither of the playmakers have seemed all that comfortable being used on the flanks previously.
Which would mean that they wouldn’t be getting the best out of their talent and would make it feel as if one of the two was just being wasted.

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet and things can change instantly in football but if Postecoglou and Tottenham really want to bring in Gomes, it’s hard to see how Maddison could be kept at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Which, if you asked most Spurs fans, it’s likely one of the things they least want to happen, especially after the turmoil they’ve already been through this season.
