Daniel Levy ‘looks foolish again’ as David Ornstein drops Tottenham transfer bombshell

Daniel Levy has had a habit of making a fool of himself during his spell as the Tottenham chairman.

There is no doubt that Levy will be a very busy man this summer after what has been an extremely disappointing season for Tottenham.

Spurs’ only hope of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League depends on their success in the Europa League, as they sit 14th in the Premier League after suffering a whopping total of 16 defeats.

The chairman must, first and foremost, decide if he wants to proceed with Ange Postecoglou at the helm, while some players are already considering their futures in North London.

Rodrigo Bentancur could be on his way out of Tottenham, with Atletico Madrid credited with an interest in signing him.

Tottenham hold discussions over Dean Huijsen

Despite all that, it appears Levy is already working on ways to bolster Tottenham’s ranks ahead of next season.

Spurs met Dean Huijsen’s representatives in the last week to discuss a transfer from Bournemouth, according to David Ornstein.

The journalist reported via The Athletic website on Thursday (10 April) that both Bournemouth and Huijsen want to resolve his future as soon as possible, with his £50million release clause destined to be triggered soon.

However, Tottenham face an uphill task to convince the 19-year-old to join them, as he is also wanted by Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Ornstein added that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool appear to be the ‘leading contenders’ to acquire the centre-back’s services from Bournemouth as things stand.

Levy must walk away to avoid Premier League embarrassment

Huijsen is likely to join a Premier League club as things stand, but it is highly improbable that Tottenham will be his next destination.

It is hard to see the North London giants playing in the Champions League next season unless Postecoglou pull off a miracle in the Europa League this time.

That in itself puts Spurs at a major disadvantage in the race to sign Huijsen, with Arsenal and Liverpool looking much more probable destinations.

Therefore, Levy must save his time by walking away from talks to sign the Spain international, as it is destined to embarrass him anyway. In truth, he already looks foolish for even trying.

Given the season that Spurs have had, signing Huijsen is too ambitious, even for Levy’s lofty standards.
