Bissouma ‘surely finished’ at Tottenham amid ‘outstanding’ claim on teammate

Yves Bissouma has played a fairly regular role in the Tottenham starting XI this season despite their poor form.

Spurs are currently 15th in the Premier League table and while Ange Postecoglou’s midfield hasn’t been all that hindered by injury, both his attack and defence have been savaged.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether things will eventually turn around at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium especially since they were just beaten 3-2 by Everton in their last Premier League clash.

While most of Spurs’ squad have been below par this season and have left an awful lot to be desired, it feels like Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray have been two shining lights.

That is, at least the opinion of BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty who dubbed the duo as “outstanding” signings.

“Spurs adopted a strategy of signing younger players in the summer, such as Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, something which Postecoglou said he bought into. I believe they will be two outstanding signings for years to come,” he wrote via the BBC Sport website (21 January).

“Dominic Solanke arrived for £65m, so he was a big money, experienced buy, but there was a feeling more was needed and now a serious injury crisis has worsened that situation.”

Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have been impressive for Tottenham this season

After experiencing half a year of dire football, the fact that Gray and Bergvall are the players who are being lauded for what they’ve done this season should be a cause for concern.

While it’s a testament to Spurs’ strong recruitment in the summer, it feels like the two youngsters shouldn’t be getting branded as Postecoglou’s best players thus far.

But, because they are it feels like the future of players such as Bissouma could be hanging on by a thin thread, indeed surely he’s finished at Spurs now.

He may have played a regular role this season but once Postecoglou has all of his players back fit, it’s likely that he’ll move players such as Gray back into their natural positions because if he’s that good now, imagine how much better he’d become in his natural position.

Defensive reinforcement is desperately needed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the window slams shut because, if Daniel Levy forces Postecoglou to go through another six months without proper defensive cover, things will no doubt go from bad to worse in double quick time.
