While getting to the games is tricky, given his job, one of the highlights of his life was watching (and crying) as the Black Cats defeated Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium last season.

Tottenham supporters will watch on with intrigue after Ange Postecoglou secured his return to management with Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham will meet Forest for the first time this season in December before a return match in late March, with Thomas Frank now in charge.

With the next transfer window set for January, supporters will be wondering which Lilywhites players the Australian could sign for Forest.

Ange Postecoglou could eye reunion with Rodrigo Bentancur

Given Spurs' transfer saga involving Morgan Gibbs-White, it could be tricky for the two clubs to strike any agreements over players.

However, several players are nearing the end of their contracts in North London, and they could appeal to Postecoglou.

The central midfielder has been linked with an exit from the North London club, with a move to Spain mooted.

Under Postecoglou, the Uruguay international featured more heavily, making 69 appearances across two campaigns.

Indeed, that is despite Bentancur suffering two ligament tears and serving a domestic seven-match ban for comments made on Son Heung-min.

If Forest progress in the Europa League, then a move to the East Midlands could appeal to the 28-year-old.

Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma will soon be out of contract at Tottenham

Although his impact has curtailed, Davies could present another appealing option for the 60-year-old if he wants more experience and leadership within his ranks.

At 32, Davies still has time to contribute at the highest level and has not yet featured under Frank.

Another option for Postecoglou could be Bissouma, who has been heavily linked with a Spurs exit.

While the Mali international could still secure a move to Turkey, time is ticking to secure a switch before the deadline on 12 September.

During his time as Tottenham manager, the Australian spoke highly of him, but challenged him to deliver better performances.

Who could Ange Postecoglou sign on loan for Nottingham Forest?

Several players in Frank's side could find their minutes limited this season, meaning Forest could pounce.

Mathys Tel was left out of Frank's Champions League squad, and although he has only just signed permanently, he could seek a loan move if he is not given opportunities.

Another winger who will likely have to sit on the bench is Wilson Odobert, who arrived from Burnley during Postecoglou's tenure.

Last season, the Frenchman was out for a significant period with injury, but is behind Brennan Johnson on the left wing.

Archie Gray is another player who arrived during the former Celtic boss' stint in North London and made 43 appearances in all competitions last term.

  • Gray has played 71 minutes of Premier League football this season
  • Odobert has appeared as a substitute in all three league games
  • Tel has played 19 minutes of league football

Gray did start against Burnley, but was benched against Man City and Bournemouth, highlighting that he will be a squad player under Frank.

While a move for the 19-year-old would be viewed as ambitious, he would surely benefit from more playing time at Forest.

With just over three months until the winter window, several Tottenham players could appeal to Postecoglou at Forest.
