Ange Postecoglou continues to hang on to his job at Tottenham by a thread.

The Australian is under intense pressure in North London after a dismal domestic campaign that has seen Spurs drop to 14th in the Premier League.

Embarrassing exits in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup has left the Europa League as the Lilywhites' only route to ending a 17-year trophy drought, and that could define Postecoglou's future.

Tottenham eye Marco Silva move as Postecoglou clings on

Tottenham are eyeing a move for Marco Silva if the former Celtic man is handed his marching orders before the end of the season.

A report from the Sun on Sunday (page 58, 23 March) claims that the Australian may be dismissed if his side crashes out of the quarter-finals in Europe.

It states that Silva, who has an £8.6million release clause and was in his native Portugal picking up an award on Monday is highly rated by the Spurs hierarchy.

Silva move will not solve Tottenham's issues

The Portuguese manager has impressed at Fulham and his side are fighting for a Champions League qualification spot but he will not solve all of Spurs' problems if he is appointed.

Silva has a mixed history in the top flight in his stints in West London and with Watford and Everton and would not guarantee success in North London.

Postecoglou v Silva in the Premier League this season.

Postecoglou has been hampered by a brutal injury crisis, arguably exacerbated by his intense training methods and failure to adapt his tactical philosophy.

However, he has also suffered from a lack of investment from the board, with Daniel Levy, who will ultimately make the decision on the future of the manager, being the subject of several protests.

If Spurs are to sack Postecoglou and appoint Silva, they must back their new man in the summer transfer window as the squad is clearly in need of an overhaul or at the very least, some better depth pieces than what they currently have.

The atmosphere is N17 is very low right now and whether Silva is the man to change the misery surrounding the club, remains to be seen.
