Ange Postecoglou and his players came crashing back down to earth as Nottingham Forest secured a 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Postecoglou was expected to make changes for the Premier League clash with the Reds on Monday (21 April).

However, the 59-year-old named a relatively strong lineup, although there was no place for James Maddison.

Despite this, Spurs were still beaten, with Elliot Anderson and Chris Wood putting the visitors two goals ahead inside the first 17 minutes, as Guglielmo Vicario was left embarrassed after a "ridiculous" incident.

Tottenham News highlights the three things that were learned from the clash.

Postecoglou will be sacked by Tottenham

Postecoglou was riding high heading into the clash with Forest after guiding Spurs to the UEFA Europa League semi-final.

However, Spurs' defeat was a stark reminder of the North London club's position in the Premier League.

Tottenham remain 16th in the Premier League after their defeat against Forest

Postecoglou has Spurs sitting 16th in April with five games to play.

As a result, if Spurs don't win the Europa League, Postecoglou will be sacked, and based on their performance against Forest, it is difficult to see Tottenham winning the Europa League.

Therefore, it is safe to say based on the performance on Monday, Postecoglou's days at Tottenham are well and truly numbered.

Richarlison still has a point to prove at Tottenham

Richarlison is expected to leave Tottenham this summer.

However, on one of the Brazillian's rare Premier League starts, the striker managed to get himself on the scoresheet. Therefore, it looks as though he still has a point to prove at Tottenham.

Should he finish the season on a high, Richarlison could be given a final chance at Tottenham next season.

VAR still has plenty of work to do

Spurs' defeat to Nottingham Forest wasn't without a bit of controversy.

Due to a fire alaram at the VAR hub at Stockley Park, the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was forced to continue without VAR, with the Premier League releasing an official statement.
