Ex-Tottenham employee Bryan King has offered his verdict on Alejo Veliz's "strange" loan move to Sevilla as Fabrizio Romano offered an update on the 20-year-old's future.

Veliz was sent on loan to La Liga outfit Sevilla during the January transfer window.

He has hardly been handed any game time in Spain, with the media in the country blasting the loan move and Spurs left angry with the treatment of their 20-year-old striker.

Romano offered an update via X (31 March), revealing that Spurs are preparing a new plan for Veliz next season, with the North London club keen on securing a loan move for the Argentinian where first-team football will be guaranteed.

And King believes this will be best for all parties.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: "What is the point of loaning somebody out if he is not going to play?

"He might as well stay put and train with the first team. It seems like a strange situation.

"Tottenham will need to ensure they don't repeat that mistake next season. Considering the kind of money they spent on what is a very young player, his development needs to be spot-on.

"If he does well away from the club, he will return hungrier, which is positive for everybody involved."

Alejo Veliz needs to be taken care of by Ange Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs paid a considerable fee to bring Veliz to the Premier League, signing him for Rosario Central for £13million last summer (via BBC Sport, 8 August).

Daniel Levy will not want to see that money go to waste, and he will be keen to ensure Veliz enjoys a much more positive 2024/25 campaign.

He has demonstrated his goalscoring potential already under Ange Postecoglou, and with time on his side, Spurs must ensure they handle his development efficiently.
