James Maddison leaving Tottenham in January is considered "very unlikely", according to Give Me Sport.

The news outlet reported online (15 November) that sources close to the North London club do not expect the 27-year-old to be on the move during the upcoming transfer window.

Maddison has fallen out of favour under Ange Postecoglou in recent weeks.

However, he will have the opportunity over the coming months to work his way back into Spurs' long-term plans.

James Maddison not expected to leave Tottenham in January

At one point Maddison was a key player for Spurs and one of the first names on Postecoglou's team sheets.

However, he has fallen out of favour as of late, as Postecoglou has opted to start some of the club's other midfielders ahead of the Englishman.

Maddison was left out of big games against the likes of Manchester City and Aston Villa, while he has been brought off early in the matches he has started, with the playmaker mooted to be unhappy at the club currently.

However, with the busy festive schedule coming up, there could be plenty of opportunities for Maddison to work his way back into the team, especially with his midfield teammate Rodrigo Bentancur expected to be banned for seven matches (via Paul O Keefe, 13 November).

Therefore, if he can make an impression and rediscover his best form, talk of any potential exit could begin to look like a distant memory.
