Tottenham are now set to be without eight players for their truly huge Europa League final showdown with Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou's men face United at San Mames in Bilbao on Wednesday (21 May) in a match that will define both sides' season.

Under-fire boss Postecoglou knows he could be sacked by Tottenham regardless of the outcome, while opposite number Ruben Amorim is also a man feeling the heat.

Both teams have injury problems to contend with ahead of the huge clash in the Basque Country, with Postecoglou sharing a final team news update on the eve of the game.

Bergvall confirmed out for Tottenham v Man United

Postecoglou staged a rather prickly press conference on Tuesday (20 May) in which he called out one journalist in particular.

The Australian also confirmed that Lucas Bergvall will play no part against United, despite being part of the Tottenham squad in Bilbao.

That means eight players are now confirmed out for Tottenham, with James Maddison, Dane Scarlett and Dejan Kulusevski the other three injury absentees.

Fraser Forster, Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin are not registered in the squad, meanwhile, which is also the case for January signing Antonin Kinsky.

Man United injury news ahead of Europa League final

As for United, they are without Lisandro Martinez through injury, while a number of others are doubtful for the same reason.

Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Diogo Dalot, Matthijs de Ligt and Jonny Evans each fall into that category.

Even accounting for all the injuries, Tottenham still have a squad good enough to overcome United.

Indeed, Postecoglou's side have already defeated the Red Devils three times this season and United face some unwanted history against Spurs in Bilbao.

An intriguing contest awaits in Spain and the result could go a long way to determining the future of Postecoglou, who has spent the best part of nine months fending off sack talk.

A victory would ensure he writes his name in Tottenham folklore, regardless of what decision Daniel Levy takes over the summer months.
