Dejan Kulusevski is among several Tottenham players hoping to hit new heights under incoming manager Thomas Frank.

The Swede – like Spurs – had a season of ups and downs but ultimately joined his teammates in lifting the Europa League in May.

Kulusevski was ruled out of the final after undergoing surgery on his right patella, and could yet miss the start of the Premier League season.

Kulusevski shares brilliant injury update

Spurs will certainly avoid rushing Kulusevski back from injury, with the club keen to avoid further injuries after a season littered with them.

The 25-year-old will be eager to return as soon as possible; however, with every player enjoying the benefit of a clean slate under the soon-to-arrive Frank.

Speaking to Göteborgs-Posten, Kulusevski said on his recovery: “It’s great, I’m ahead of schedule and can start walking now.”

The Sweden national team are watching the winger’s recovery with a keen eye, also, with the World Cup qualifiers on the horizon.

The first matches come early in September, although Spurs will be hesitant to risk sanctioning Kulusevski’s participation.

Kulusevski could thrive under Frank

With Frank’s appointment imminent, questions linger over what system the Dane will choose to deploy.

During his time with Brentford, the 51-year-old often favoured a five-back system with three centre-backs.

That system would often see Bryan Mbeumo form a two-man strike-force with Yoane Wissa.

However, after a slow start for Brentford to the 2024/25 campaign, Frank switched to a four-back system, with Mbuemo deployed on the right wing.

The Frenchman has been linked with Spurs but looks set for a move to Manchester United.

His development under Frank may provide some encouragement to Kulusevski, who could see himself filling the same role.

The former Juventus man was often deployed in a more central role by Ange Postecoglou, but his best form at Spurs was undoubtedly harnessed from out wide.

Kulusevski was signed in 2022 and hit the ground running in the Premier League under Antonio Conte.

The Italian was wed to the three-back system, and positioned Kulusevski and Son Heung-Min on either side of Harry Kane.

In his first 18 matches under Conte, Kulusevski registered 13 Premier League direct goal contributions – form Spurs fans will hope Frank can recapture.
