Tottenham backed to sign Angel Gomes ahead of Manchester United

Bryan King has backed Tottenham to sign Lille midfielder Angel Gomes ahead of Manchester United.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose thinks United's transfer priorities lie elsewhere.

And Wenham - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - thinks a move to North London could appeal to the 24-year-old.

"Why can't Spurs sign Gomes ahead of United?" King said.

"I'd imagine that United will be looking at players from Portugal after the arrival of Ruben Amorim. Therefore, I think if Tottenham are interested in Gomes, they should look to bring him in.

"However, they have got to finish in a position which will interest the player. Gomes will want to be playing in Europe next season, and there is no reason why Spurs shouldn't be able to provide that.

"Tottenham are a big club, they're certainly a bigger club than Lille."

Tottenham to sign Lille midfielder Angel Gomes ahead of Manchester United?

Although TBR Football's report states that Lille don't expect Gomes to move on in January, Spurs have been backed to potentially agree a £3million deal during the winter transfer window.

Either way, it seems as though a deal could be on the table, despite interest from United, which would delight Ange Postecoglou.

Gomes could prove a very useful addition to Spurs' squad, especially if he arrives in January as the club look to compete on multiple fronts throughout the second half of the season.
